Ghanaian recording artist and entertainer, Ayigbe Edem, has entreated the government to apportion parts of the funds received from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) into the creative industry of the country.

He contends that despite the abundance of talent in Ghana, the government’s unwillingness to invest in the creative sector has hampered the industry’s growth.

In an interview on TV3, which 1Family Radio monitored, the musician claimed that although there are many talented people in the nation, their potential will not be fully realized owing to the inadequate assistance provided by the government.

“Ghana has a wealth of musical talent, whether it be in reggae, dancehall, or hip-hop. Take a look at football or boxing, and you will see that there are plenty of talented people. However, resources are the issue, so I believe that now that the loan has arrived, the government needs to look sharp and assist us,’’ he said.

“People will look deep within themselves and bring something wonderful, but if it is not marketed and shown, people will not experience it. Therefore, you may have an excellent album, but without marketing and exhibition, that art cannot reach the public.’’

Edem went on to say that the reason there are so many suffering artists is because there are no policies in place to help them and promote their work.

The ‘Goget’em’ rapper stated, “I think the major difficulty is a lack of marketing plan and a PR deficit due to inadequate finances, but the talent in the country is in abundance.”
