Mr. Vitus Adaboo Azeem, an anti-corruption activist, has requested that President Akufo-Addo look into Cecilia Dapaah’s $1 million theft case.
Cecilia Dapaah, the minister of sanitation and water resources, has been in the news as a result of a complaint she filed with the court regarding an alleged theft by two of her housekeepers at her home in Abelemkpe.
The Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah’s housemaids, Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, were charged with stealing personal things from her, including a number of outfits worth GH95,000 as well as handbags, perfumes, and jewelry valued at US$95,000 from her. A total of US$1 million and £300,000 in cash were stolen.
Former President John Dramani Mahama was one of the many politicians and celebrities who reacted to this revelation, calling the theft case disgusting.
Vitus Azeem, however, asserts that if the current president is committed to leadership by example, he should launch an investigation into this issue.
Speaking in a phone conversation with GhanaWeb, monitored by 1Family Radio, Vitus claimed that the investigation’s findings would be the same old tale in which the minister would be exonerated.
“He needs to order a quick probe into this problem if he wants to set a good example. Then, if the investigations reveal evidence that the funds were obtained unlawfully, the appropriate steps must be taken,” he said.
“But past events have shown us that these things never actually occur. He’s most likely going to say the minister did nothing wrong, which will end the case,” he claimed.
