The National democratic Congress (NDC) has ordered the Attorney General, Godfred Dame to withdraw his unconstitutional letter to the Auditor-General.
Godfred Dame in his letter condemned the Auditor-General over his publication of the report on the Special Audit of COVID-19 expenditures for the period of March to June 2022.
According to Mr. Dame, the Auditor-General’s report was premature because Parliament didn’t debate over it before it was issued. This was captured in his statement on February,7,2023.
However, the NDC has condemned this statement by the Attorney General in a press release on February,10,2023. In the statement, the action by Godfred was referred to as “ungodly interference and intrusion into the mandate of the Auditor-General.
The statement which was signed by the National Communications Officer of the party, Sammy Gyamfi, indicated that Article 189(7)(a) of the Constitution gives the Auditor-General his independence. The Auditor-General is not dominated by any authority or individual when discharging his constitutional duties.
it was noted that the Godfred Dame is discomfited because he is the legal advisor to the corrupt Akuffo-Addo government and he is worried that the Auditor-General has uncovered how the government mismanaged the COVID-19 funds.
The statement indicated that the NDC is worried about by the attack on the independence of the Auditor-general because the former Auditor-General was hounded out of office when he revealed some corrupt activities of the government.
The NDC demanded that the Attorney General should withdraw his unconstitutional and distasteful letter to the Auditor-General. He must also desist from intruding into the mandate of the Auditor-general.
The statement called on all Ghanaians to constructively criticize the attack on the independence of the Auditor-General.
