Ghanaian renowned author Ama Atta Aidoo passes away

Professor Ama Ata Aidoo, a distinguished Ghanaian novelist, poet, playwright, and academic, has unfortunately kicked the bucket.

Her demise was announced by her family on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Ama Ata Aidoo was born on March 23, 1942, in Abeadzi Kyiakor.

Ama Ata Aido was renowned for her distinctive writing style and effective message delivery. Her desire to make her stories as truly African as possible distinguishes her writing.

The Dilemma of a Ghost, Our Sister Killjoy, No Sweetness Here, Anowa, and Changes are a few of the well-known author’s books.

Her writings examine a variety of subjects, such as post-colonialism, femininity, and African identity. Aside from fiction, Ama Ata Aidoo’s literary prowess also includes poetry, drama, and essays.

In 1992, she was honored with the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for the Best Book in Africa for her novel ‘Changes’.

She has always been an advocate of women’s rights and an inspiration to other African female writers.

Her passing has left a big vacuum in the literary world. Her legacy and contributions to the literary world will undoubtedly linger on for many years to come.
