In their bid to demand payment of their arrears, some members of the National Food Suppliers Association have decided to picket at the forecourt of the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO).

These suppliers spent the night of Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at the premises of NAFCO and plan to stay there today, or at least until they receive payment for the food supplies they provided to various schools.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi News, monitored by 1Family Radio, the spokesperson for NAFCO, Koku Amedume, called on the government to pay off the debts it owes these suppliers.

He alleged that they have no peace at their various homes as they are always being chased by creditors.

“There is no longer tranquility in our houses. Creditors have taken possession of our homes, but we appear to have found a home with [Buffer Stock Company]. As you can see, the majority of them are dozing off, as they’ve never before dozed off. This demonstrates the anguish people experience when sleeping in their own beds.’’

‘’Only the government is the primary focus of our petition. We do not intend to paint the current administration in a bad light. However, this is a serious national security issue because it threatens their very existence and the very core of who they are. This is why we are appealing to the government.

“These folks need the government’s attention the most because they are currently dealing with a lot. The worst part is that when the government provided the funding, NAFCO chose to engage with a different set of providers. When he didn’t have a penny, we started Free SHS with the government.’’

“In 2021, they made us supply on credit after sitting us down. At the end of the year, they only paid a small portion of what we provided. We didn’t mind, but in 2022, we insisted on payment for 2021, but they ignored us. They assured us that they would pay us and urged us to keep supplying. We provided food to the NFSC for the full year of 2022 without receiving a penny,” he grumbled.

“Getting our money is the only way to solve this problem. If not, we’ll continue to stay here,’’ he hinted.
