Ghanaian legendary highlife musician and songwriter, Gyedu-Blay Ambolley has cleared the air on why the content of most songs by young artistes are mostly based on love rather than social issues.
According to him, most of these young artistes do not really have responsibilities like their older counterparts which is why they mostly sing about their lovers and other trivial issues.
Speaking in an interview on GTV monitored by 1Family Radio, the musician noted that even the music videos of these artistes sometimes do not speak well about the Ghanaian culture.
“I think these young artistes sing more about their girlfriends and love life more than important social issues. Sometimes even in their music videos, you see these young girls shaking their backside,’’ he stated.
He however noted that they are not to be blamed because it’s obvious they don’t have a mature outlook on life neither do they have responsibilities like the older generation.
“I can’t really blame them because they are not burden with much responsibilities and this is reflecting in their lyrics and music videos. It’s like they are just having fun,’’ Ambolley said.
The veteran musician urged the young artistes in the country to get involved in social issues in the country and also use their music to create a good picture about our culture.
