Police urged by Information Ministry to probe attack on Dagbon FM presenter

Attacks on journalists shouldn't be condoned

The Ministry of information has charged the Police Service to investigate the recent attack on a presenter at Dagbon FM in the Northern Region of Ghana.

On Tuesday, May 2, 2023, radio presenter Sidiq Abubakari Gariba was assaulted by one Mr. Hardi Pagazaa and some another man during a live radio program.

In a viral circulating on social Media, Mr. Pagzaa, a former regional communications officer of the NDC was captured storming the studio with the other man and threatened to beat him up.

According to the ministry this act is heinous and it shouldn’t be condoned in any part of the country.

The statement which was sighted by 1Family Radio indicated, “The Ministry of Information has noted with concern reports of assault on a journalist at Dagbon Fm, in Tamale.’’

“The Ministry condemns the act and urges the Ghana Police Service and relevant agencies to investigate and prosecute the perpetrators,’’ the statement noted.

“Attacks on journalists should not be countenanced. Severe and speedy response from law enforcement agencies is necessary to prevent copy-cat acts maintain Ghana’s status in upholding press freedom,’’ the ministry wrote.

Oppong Kojo Nkrumah, the Minister of Information added that he has offered to help the victim of the need arise.
