Michael Kwaku Ola, a Ghanaian movie producer, has opened up on why the acting careers of certain actors and actresses were stifled by some film producers.
His comments follow an accusation made by Big Akwes that a series of meetings were held during which it was decided that actors like Yvonne Nelson and Agya Koo would be blacklisted from the movie industry.
Despite not disputing Big Akwes’ claim, Ola Michael clarified the reasons why these actors were passed up for roles in the entertainment industry.
Appearing as a guest on UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday, June 17, 2023, which was monitored by 1Family Radio, Ola disclosed that Agya Koo was blacklisted in order to raise new stars in the industry.
“Because you said that some individuals conspired together to strip someone of his daily food, I assert that this is untrue. It is erroneous. There are various ways for us to communicate. This makes it sound as though we are being cruel to someone. But the whole point was that everything became centered around one individual at some point.’’
‘Agya Koo was dominating all of Ghana. Why? The plan was to train substitute performers to take his place. The objective was to include others so they could shine as well. We were interested in inspiring others so that it wouldn’t just be about one individual,” he said.
What if he becomes exhausted or an unforeseen event prevents him from working? Then it implies that that industry will collapse. What did we do wrong? Isn’t that what promoted Akrobeto and Lilwin? We began giving each of these people lead roles,” he said.
He went on to claim that Yvonne Nelson was blacklisted in order to punish her for having a terrible character.
“Yvonne’s character on set was terrible. On the set, I wasn’t impressed with her attitude. Among other things, she does what she wants and shows up on set whenever she wants. I don’t remember because it’s been a while, he remarked.
