Seasoned gospel singer Obaapa Christy has opened up about where and how she sometimes gets inspiration to write her songs.
The musician claims that everything around her, including her personal experiences and other people’s testimonies, serves as inspiration.
Speaking in an interview on Cape Coast-based Property FM, monitored by 1Family Radio, Obaapa noted that she occasionally chooses a biblical character and writes a song based on their experiences.
“Some of the gospel songs I sing are from my own personal experience, but I get most of my songs from God in diverse ways,’’ she said.
“When I’m happy, I’m able to write a song from it, and the same thing happens when I am also sad. I sometimes even get a song during a conversation with people.’’
“When I attend church services, I can get a song from the sermon being preached; even someone’s testimony can inspire me to write a gospel song,’’ the singer noted.
The ‘Wagye Me’ singer continued that in writing her songs, she combines the word of God with daily life experiences to create a song everybody can relate to.
“These situations all help because the music that we compose is all about life, but at the same time, being a gospel song, you must choose a biblical figure.’’
“Because of this, even though each person has a different method of receiving their songs from God, you must combine the Bible’s teachings with your own life experiences to produce a song,’’ she disclosed.
