Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the MP for Suame and the current majority leader in Parliament, has disclosed that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have opposed his decision to leave parliament.
Some months ago, the politician announced that he would not contest again as the Member of Parliament for Suame. Being one of the longest-serving members of parliament, he claims that it is time for him to explore new areas.
Speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb monitored by 1Family Radio, the MP stated that he is fixated on his decision, although he has faced several oppositions ever since he made his intention known to the public.
“I have made up my mind, but the national executives, regional executives, and other members of the party are giving me problems. They said they wouldn’t listen, but I have already stated my case,’’ he noted.
“Just three days ago, I was at Kumawu, and the regional chairman pleaded with me to stop saying that I am quitting because the party has not agreed to it; therefore, I shouldn’t say this anywhere again,’’ the politician said.
Kyei-Mensah, however, noted that he is only leaving parliament and not the political space; therefore, he will always be at the service of the party.
“I have decided to leave parliament and not the political terrain; I will always be here, wherever I find myself, to be dictated by the party, to be directed by what provision God has for me.’’
“I think that I will have some time for myself, reminiscing about all that has happened in my life, and then start writing a book about my life, parliament, and some of the things I have experienced,’’ Kyei-Mensah stated.
