Seth Emmanuel Terkper, a Ghanaian politician and former Minister of Finance and Economic Planning under the NDC administration, has projected that the approval of the IMF bailout deal for Ghana will have grave effects on the next government to assume power.

The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved Ghana’s $3 billion loan request on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at a meeting in Washington, DC.

According to the former minister, the approval will give the government and Ghanaians some sort of relief, but there is more work to be done.

“As it did, yes. I acknowledge its respite. but noted we have to work ahead,’’ he stated in a Twitter post sighted by 1Family Radio.

He continued that although the country is currently waiting for the full document from the IMF, this deal calls on Ghanaians to put in more hard work, especially the next government that will assume power.

“We have more work ahead, especially in external debt restructuring. We wait for the full document, which will definitely have serious implications for the next administration. Note that the current government took over the 2015 Extended Credit Facility (ECF) with a better scenario,’’ he added.
