Okyeame Kwame, a Ghanaian singer-songwriter and musician, has discussed his personal religious beliefs.
Despite being raised in a Christian environment, the musician claims he is not a Christian since he has come to respect all major religions and their tenets.
Despite his Christian upbringing, Kwame said in an interview on Joy Prime that 1Family Radio monitored that he is now an omnist, which means he believes in all major religions.
“I was raised in the Christian faith until I was about 14 years old. I was born a Christian in the Methodist Church. Because my father was a Catholic, the majority of my values are Christian,” he claimed.
He continued by saying that he became an omnist because he finds inspiration in all the various religions in his environment.
“Since my mother was a Methodist, I went through catechism as a child. I also went to an Anglican school so most of my social interactions have been Christian. But as things stand right now, I don’t believe I can claim to be a Christian. I do not identify myself as a Christian, but as an omnist,’’ he said.
Okyeame Kwame elaborated on what makes him an omnist, pointing out that his love for rivers, plants, and the natural world makes him a traditionalist. He can also identify as a Buddhist due to his love of animals.
He continued by stating that loving his neighbor as himself, which is the greatest commandment of all, makes him a Christian as well. He is also a Muslim because of his adoration and respect for God.
“I don’t have an answer to the question of whether to believe in Jesus Christ because I wasn’t there. It happened 2000 years ago. There is no way for me to confirm what actually occurred. Nevertheless, I am aware that if I live my life in accordance with Jesus Christ, I will be a better person,” he responded when asked if he believes in Jesus Christ.
