Ghanaian musician and songwriter Martin King Arthur, professionally known as Kofi Kinaata, has eulogized Samini, his former record label boss, while refuting the claims that he was discovered by him.
The musician alleges that despite his previous boss giving him exposure, which was crucial to his career, Samini didn’t discover him.
Kinaata claimed to have started rapping in 2008, much before Samini signed him to the High-Grade Family, in an interview on 3FM’s UrbanBlend, which 1Family Radio monitored. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to Samini for promoting him to bigger stages.
“Samini signed me up for the High-Grade Family when I was still unknown. It was through Samini that I became popular. People knew Samini; therefore, by tagging me along with him, his fans automatically became my fans,’’ he said.
Without mincing words, the ‘Things Fall Apart’ crooner stated he wasn’t discovered by Samini, as some Ghanaians believe.
“Samini didn’t discover me. I was doing music and rap way back in 2008. However, he has been very pivotal in my career,’’ Kinaata added.
He described how Samini battled against all odds to book him into performances at events where he wasn’t scheduled to appear. He cited the incident with international artist Chris Brown to buttress his point.
“When Chris Brown visited Ghana, I was then in Accra, and Samini brought me on stage to perform for about five minutes, although I wasn’t billed to perform. This gave me a lot of exposure,’’ he narrated.
“What Samini did pushed me and propelled me from one stage of my career to the next stage,’’ he added.
