Dr. John Kwakye, the Director of Research at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has lambasted parliamentarians for not being keen and attentive to the viewpoints of economists and research institutions.

He has ascribed Ghana’s current fiscal crisis to the decision-makers’ failure to pay attention to and act upon the opinions of economic experts.

In a Twitter post by the researcher sighted by 1Family Radio, he noted; “our policymakers do not seem to be interested in the views of economic experts and think tanks.’’

“They have the mentality that we will rule and they can have their say. No wonder we find ourselves in economic crisis,’’ he added.

Several industrialized nations, notably the United States and the United Kingdom, have independent legislative budget offices, according to Dr. Kwakye, who has campaigned for their establishment in this country.

“We are advocating for the creation of a fiscal council, which is a type of independent legislative budget office,’’ he emphasized.

He emphasized that the concept of a legislative budget office is that it is marked by impartial specialists.
