Reigning VGMA Artiste of the Year, Black Sherif has stated that he will not comment on topics relating to politics and governance until he has enough knowledge and feels qualified to do so.
Speaking in an interview on TV3 New Day monitored by 1Family Radio, Blacko noted that he is still working on becoming a better version of himself and those around him.
He acknowledged the intricacy of the problems when questioned about the condition of the nation and the functioning of the administration at the time. Blacko expressed his reluctance to offer a thorough analysis at this time.
“As I sit here right now, I don’t know how to comment on the issues regarding the government. But perhaps in the following year or two, I’ll be able to talk on that,’’ he said.
He wondered if he may be able to address these issues through his music, speculating that perhaps composing a song might be the best method for him to do so.
“I desire to chat through the government to the people and that is why I appreciate the fact that there is no barrier between me and the public because of my music,’’ he noted.
The ‘Second Sermon’ singer underlined the value of careful and thorough communication while displaying a commitment to accountability.
He claimed that in order to fully understand the potential significance of his words, he had been cautious in how he chose them.
“I cherish responsibility. I tend to choose my words extremely slowly when I speak. I want to be conscious of the words I use. I am speaking to the masses because my face is in their faces. I’m trying my hardest,” he said.
Blacko, who is well known for his lyrical voice and original narrative, also stressed the need of self-reflection and inner serenity as crucial steps in his personal progress.
“If you want to be better, you have to start by being at peace with yourself. I’m acting in that manner. I’m attempting to do it for my people, who should take care of themselves and deal with their particular problems before looking for outside help,’’ Blacko added.
