I will no longer take the blame for the current economic mess – President Akufo Addo

His excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has cautioned the heads of state-owned-enterprises (SOEs)to take up their responsibility because he can no longer take the blame for the current economic hardship.

Following a report by The Chronicle newspaper, the president indicated that the heads of the state-owned-institutions are mostly not blamed for the mal performance of the economy while he and ministers takes the blame for the downturn of the economy.

According to the president, these enterprises are also responsible for the economic hardships in the country because they are not contributing and they have become a burden on the nation.

Speaking at the maiden State Interest and Governance (SIGA) held at Kwahu Abetifi, Akuffo-Addo hinted that he and his sector ministers will not bear the blame for the economic problems again because the heads of the state-owned-institutions are also accountable for it.

“You can no longer remain in the shadows while I take the criticisms for the bad performance of the economy,” the president stressed. He continued that over the years, the entity heads of the state enterprises have been ignored when the government is being blamed for mismanaging the nation’s economy. 

The president added that these state institutions are non-performing because they contribute not more than five percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.

He admonished the heads of the state enterprises try and make these enterprises more significant in the country. President Akuffo-Addo urged them to help stabilize the economy and not be a financial burden.
