It has been announced by the Ga Traditional Council that the annual ban on drumming and noise making will commence on May 15 to the June 15, 2023.

The one month ban on drumming and noise making is part of the customs to observe this year’s Homowo festival celebration.

According to a press statement issued by the Evelyn Amewoste, this ban affects any form of noise making including the use of loud speakers, drums, tambourine, clapping of hands and any form of musical instruments within the Ga state.

The statement sighted by 1Family Radio indicated, “all worship centers should confine their activities within their church premises. The positioning of loud speakers outside the church premises and mosques is banned during this period.’’

“Road side evangelism and the use of megaphones and other loud speakers should also be totally avoided during this period. Funeral rites and its related activities are also banned during this period to a week after the lifting of the official ban,’’ the statement stated.

Boundaries that will be affected by this official ban include the Northern boundary which is the boundary dividing Accra from the Eastern Region and the Western boundary which is Odukpon Kpehe better known as Kasoa.

The Eastern boundary including Osu and all villages and towns under Osu Ngleshie Alata and the Ga Traditional Councils are all affected by this one-month ban.

The statement continued that ‘’a task force working with REGSEC and various Metropolitan, Municipal, District Assemblies has been set up to collaborate with the Ghana Police Service and other Security Agencies to monitor and ensure compliance with the ban and prosecute culprits who fail to comply with the ban.’’
