Ghanaian businessman and an NDC aspirant for the Keta parliamentary seat, Emmanuel Jones-Mensah has refuted the allegations levelled against him by the functional Executive of the party.
The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC deferred its decision on the eligibility of the aspirant until further investigations have been conducted. This decision was taken after a report by a special committee indicated that his name is not in the official Ashaiman database of the party as at 2018.
According to the FEC, Mr. Jones’ name was fraudulently inserted in the branch register of the party.
However, a letter issued by the lawyer of the politician to the NDC indicated that the allegations levelled against Jones is false, malicious and misleading.
In the letter, the lawyer requested that the allegation against Mr. Jones should be dismissed and treated with the contempt it deserves.
The letter sighted by 1Family Radio wrote, “the supposed petition, alleges some membership registration irregularities on the part of our client in the keta and Ashaiman Constituencies but we on behalf of our client categorically deny all the allegations against him and urge the Vetting Committee to dismiss them as being false, malicious and misleading.’’
According to him, the parliamentary aspirant is a registered member of the NDC at VALCO FLAT BASE 1 branch of the Ashaiman Constituency. Mr. E. l Agbemave, the lawyer of the politician explained that Mr. Jones filed his nominations with the Keta Constituency while stating his membership of the VALCO FLAT BASE 1 branch of the Ashaiman Constituency and not the Keta Constituency.
He continued that his client has not violated any law of the NDC party because he has already disassociated himself from the wrongful insertion of his name in the party’s register.
The lawyer therefore urged the Vetting Committee not to entertain the frivolous allegations levelled against his client.
