The Association of Ghana Industries has called on government to review its expenditure rather than imposing taxes on local business.

According to Tsonam Akpeloo, an Executive Member of AGI it would be wise if the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) learn from the ECG by going round to collect property tax from the citizens.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 monitored by 1Family Radio, Mr. Tsonam stated that the government can also generate money from collecting property taxes and not only from the local businesses in the country.

He furthered that considering the current dire times, the government should review his expenditure and cut down on the taxes imposed on the few AGI companies that are tax complainant.

“We are in hard times and you cannot have a bloated expenditure in such times. We vehemently believe that government should review its expenditure,’’ he noted.

Tsonam added that very soon almost all the AGI businesses will collapse because of the way the GRA tax them.

“There are so many businesses that do not pay taxes and it is very unfair to keep on taxing the few AGI businesses that are tax complainant.’’

“These businesses will collapse in no time and there will be no company for you to tax because of the huge taxes we pay,’’ he explained.

He therefore urged the GRA to start mobilizing funds like the Electricity Company of Ghana is doing.

“The ECG just began a revenue mobilization exercise by calling people to pay their debts, we urged the GRA to do similar to collect property tax to generate funds,’’ Tsonam hinted.
