Lawmaker for Tamale Central on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed has appealed to the traitors of the party to make amendments by voting against the three new revenue bills before parliament.

Parliament has been presented with three new revenue bills to vote on their approvals today, March 30, 2023. These bills are the Income Tax Amendment Bill, the Excise Duty Amendment Bill and the Growth and Sustainability Bill.

The approval of these bills by parliament will aid the country secure the $3 billon deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Hon. Murtala has however has charged the minority in parliament especially the MPs who betrayed the party by voting in favor of the new ministerial nominees of the president to vote against the approval of these bills which seek to overburden Ghanaians with more taxes.

According to him, he is happy that the voting this time around is not going to be a secret voting. “The good thing is that unlike the last time, this vote is going to be done through an open ballot therefore we are hoping to get all the 136 minority MPs to vote against these bills,’’ he disclosed.

He advised the MPs who betrayed the party and the entire nation to vindicate themselves this time around by voting against the bills.

“I believe that the people we have disappointed with regards to the outcome of the voting on the ministerial nominees, we’ve been given another chance to let them know that the decision of some MPs within the minority was not the reflective of the entire caucus,’’ he noted.

He furthered, ‘’those who betrayed the caucus and have realized their mistakes have the chance to make amendments now.’’
