Dr.Farida Abdulai, the Deputy Director of the Ghana Health Service has announced that four people have been confirmed dead due to monkeypox and 116 cases have been recorded in fourteen regions in the country.

Monkeypox is a respiratory disease which can be transmitted through respiratory droplets and also coming into contact with rashes of a victim of the disease. People that are infected by it shows signs of severe fever, cold, rashes and high body temperature.

She made this assertion during a stakeholder meeting which was held in Ningo-prampram. The program was organized by the Ghana Health Service with help from the USAID Breakthrough Program. According to her, two of these death cases were recorded in the Upper East and the other two were recorded in the Central and the Greater Accra Region.

The Savannah and Ahafo regions are yet to record any case of monkeypox. She mentioned that everybody is at risk of getting the monkeypox disease because most of the victims of the disease are people from the ages of sixteen to thirty-nine.

Dr. Farida added that a free lab test is available so anyone that shows the symptoms of monkeypox should seek medical care. She refuted the beliefs that the disease can be cured by alcohol and swimming in the sea.

According to her, these beliefs have not been scientifically proven and therefore we should not trust these speculations. She advised that the best thing to do is to seek medical care.
