Dominic Nitiwul, the Defence Minister has asserted that the military personnel in the country must be respected by Ghanaians.

Addressing the media after a meeting with the Defence Committee in Parliament which was monitored by 1Family Radio, the minister indicated that incidents like what is happening in Ashaiman is currently on the rise and it is very disturbing.

He noted “such incidences happen in every country and since we are shaping up a country, we are going to experience such regrettable incidences.’’

The minister urged the general public to revere people in uniform. “I will appeal to Ghanaians to respect people in uniform because it will help us as a country,’’ he stated.

He furthered that he is not permitted to say anything until the Defence Committee and himself have visited the community next week Thursday to see things for themselves.

According to him, they have not visited the area yet because the operation is still ongoing and they wouldn’t want to compromise with it. However, they have advised the Ghana Armed Forces to tone down their statement.

He concluded that all they want is a peaceful Ghana.
