The parliament of Ghana will start the vetting of the six new ministerial nominees by President Akuffo Addo.

On February 9,2023, the president submitted six names of new ministerial nominees to parliament for vetting and approval after Alan Kyerematen, Dr. Afriyie Akoto and Ebenezer Kojo resigned from their positions in pursue of their presidential ambition.

The vetting is scheduled to start today with Kobbina Tahiru Hammond who is the nominee for the position of Minister of Trade and Industry, Bryan Acheampong as the Minister of Food and Agriculture, and Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the nominee for the position of Minister of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

However, the National Democratic Congress in a statement release on February ,19, 2023 warned the minority caucus in Parliament not approve any of the new ministerial nominees by the president.

According the main opposition party, the government has become adamant to the pleas to reduce his government machinery in these dire times. It was stated that considering the current economic mess, it will be in the interest of the country if the president reduces the size of his government.

In the statement, the NDC noted that their directive to the minority caucus not to approve any of the new ministerial nominees is in the best interest of Ghanaians. The minority was also urged to push for a reduction in the government machinery in order to reduce the unnecessary drain on public resources.

The statement was signed by Fiifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC.
