A report by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has shown that male workers earn more money than women in the public sector.
The report dubbed ‘Ghana 2022 earnings’ indicated that the difference between the net salary of men and women is about GH¢ 165. Male workers earn about GH¢ 2,669 while women have an average of GH¢2,504.
The report stated that the gender pay gap is 6.0 percent. This means that men have a higher average monthly net salary than women. It was noted in all the sixteen regions of Ghana, the average monthly salary of women is less than men.
According to the report, the male workers in the Upper West region earn thirteen percent more than the salary earned by women.
The report furthered that about 688,000 workers are employed by the government with male constituting about 54.4% of the total number of employees in the public sector.
It was also recorded that employees above the age of sixty years earn more salary than any age groups. The report hinted that almost half of the employees in the public sector are between the ages of thirty-one and forty years.
