Daniel Mckorley, a Ghanaian businessman and the CEO of the McDan Group of Companies has asserted that Ghana is facing economic crisis because we don’t have enough indigenous enterprises in the country.

He made this statement at the 74th Annual New School held in Accra. According to him, some developed countries like Japan and Germany are still progressing because most of their major production like iron, banking and steel are managed by indigenous businessmen.

Mr. mcKorley furthered that Nigerians are in charge of banking here in Ghana while marketing is being managed by Lebanese and Indians. He mentioned that foreigners control most of our oil and mining companies.

He is of the opinion that when Small and Medium Enterprises in Ghana are provided with enough opportunities, they will flourish and this will help improve the country’s economy.

Daniel stated that the Africa Continental Free trade Area (AFCTA) is an avenue for private owned businesses in Africa to grow and also control important sectors of their country’s economy . He therefore encouraged private businesses to enlighten themselves about the AFCTA to help boost their business.

He urged all stakeholders of AFCTA to ensure that they create enough awareness about AFCTA to help achieve the aims and objectives of this program.

Mr. McKorley also encouraged the youth to engage in the AFCTA to help them improve their human resources.
