The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has called upon the government and the entire public to help construct a heamodialysis centre in the Upper East region to aid in the therapeutics of people who have kidney related issues.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency which was monitored by 1Family Radio, the minister stated that the campaign needs assistance and funding from various shareholders to help in the construction and furnishing of the center.
He pleaded with the District Chief Executives and some lawmakers in the region to donate towards this good project. He urged them to aid in the construction of the center despite the fact that most people in the region are not interested in such projects. Mr. Yakubu stated that this project will benefit everyone in the region and beyond therefore they should all come together and help.
In 2022, fifteen out of thirty patients with kidney diseases died according to the analysis from the Upper East Regional Hospital due to lack of dialysis.
On this basis, a Physician Specialist at the department of Medicine in the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Dr. Emmanuel Akatibo, and Ayamga Ayariga, who happens to be a nurse began a campaign themed “Haemodialysis centre for the Upper East Regional Hospital” to generate capital for the construction of the center to reduce the rate at which people die due to kidney failure.
Some Civil Society Organizations, media and some inhabitants of the Upper East Region have involved themselves in the campaign to establish the centre for haemodialysis.
