Mubarak Muntaka, the former Minority chief whip in Parliament and the Member of Parliament for the Asawase Constituency has asserted that the changes made in the minority caucus was not made by the NDC.
Speaking to the press on January 26, 2023, monitored by 1Family Radio, the lawmaker explained that the party’s council that is responsible regulating such changes were not involved in the election of the current minority caucus. He also stated that the letter given to the Alban Bagbin, the speaker of Parliament was signed by just a handful of people.
Mubarak Muntarak said that the NDC has four structures put in place for decision making. These are the congress, National Executive Committee, the Functional Committee and the Council of Elders. He is certain that the letters addressed to the Speaker of parliament was not done based on the party’s decision.
He stated that no decision can be made without the involvement of the Functional Executive Committee. Muntaka announced that he is a member of the FEC, NEC and he also attends the meetings of the Council of Elders, and Haruna Iddrisu is a member of all these committees. He claimed that this agenda has never been discussed during any of the meetings. This simply means that this appointment was made by just few people.
The lawmaker admonished the leadership of the party to be wary that their decisions do not contradict the constitution of the party. Some other MPs including Muntaka have asked the NEC to withhold appointment of the new minority caucus until further consultation with other executives of the party.
