The traditional leader of the Dormaa Traditional Area, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, has requested that the charges against Assin North Constituency lawmaker James Gyakye Quayson be dropped by the Attorney General.

The appeal was made by Osagyefo, who also serves as the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, at the commemorative lecture for John Evans Atta Mills’ 10-year anniversary that was monitored by 1Family Radio over the weekend in Sunyani.

The Dormaahene claimed that if he had been a member of the Supreme Court panel, he would have taken a different stance.

‘’The honorable individual I’d like to discuss was a Canadian citizen. He claimed that he was unwilling to remain in Canada and that he had renounced his citizenship in order to assist here.’’

“The Supreme Court decided that the MP’s mandate should be revoked when the man arrived because of some challenges he encountered,’’ the Dormaahene said.

“Some of us were not happy with that. If I were on the Supreme Court panel, I would have taken the left position and the right position. The reason I will opt for the left will raise another issue, so iI will not say,” he added.

“Didn’t the constituents vote once more when Gyakye’s name was removed from parliament? Was he elected or not? Didn’t he earn a 57.5% majority? Is that just a victory?’’ he quizzed.

In order to halt the prosecution of Gyakye Quayson, the Dormaahene requested that the president and attorney general file a nolle prosequi.

“As a matter of urgency, I am appealing to the President of the Republic [Akufo-Addo], if he has any role to play, that trial should be aborted, and the Attorney-General should, as a matter of urgency, file a nolle Prosequi to end that particular decision” and abort the criminal case against Mr. Quayson”, he noted.
