The Judicial Service Staff Association (JUSAG) has proven that it meant business when it declared an indefinite strike on Wednesday, May 24, 2023.
A statement released by the association indicated that it will embark on an indefinite strike effective May 24, 2023.
According to the statement, which was seen by 1Family Radio, they have endured enough hardship and can no longer put up with the present economic situation.
The association’s decision to embark on this strike was born out of the president’s failure to review the salaries of its members.
“Conventionally, salaries and related allowances of staff of the service are reviewed every two years pursuant to the provisions of the constitution referred to supra. The last review of salaries for staff of the service was in 2021 and was implemented from January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2022. By implication, we were due for another review to be implemented from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2024,’’ the statement noted.
“JUSAG submitted its proposal for review of salaries for 2023-2024 on October 31, 2022, to the Judicial Council for consideration in its advice to the president for determination in accordance with Articles 149 and 18(2) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.’’
“We have suffered enough. We can no longer bear it. An empty sack cannot stand upright. The National Executive Council of JUSAG, upon consultations with the Judicial Service Ladies Association of Ghana (JUSAG), Senior Staff Association (SSAJUG), Driver Association, Finance Staff Association, and all stakeholders who matter, hereby declare an indefinite strike,’’ the association indicated.
Courtrooms around the country, including the Supreme Court, are reportedly vacant, proving that the association has kept to its words.
