Some school feeding caterers in the Ashanti region has stated that they will not cook until their arrears are paid by the government.

According to the agitated caterers, their reactions is fueled by the high cost of the feeding and the government’s failure to pay their arrears for the past nine months.

News reaching us (1Family Radio) is that some of these caterers have quit from rendering service after school reopened on the 4th of April, 2023.

The agitated caterers noted that they went to the office of the regional secretariat on March 20, 2023 to demand for the payment of their arrears. They also demanded that the feeding grant be increased to GH¢3 instead of the 97 pesewas per head.

They furthered that the first quota was paid by the government on the 27th of March, 2023 but the feeding grant is yet to be reviewed.

Speaking to 1Family Radio, Dorothy Ofori-Sarpong, one of the aggrieved caterers noted that the government owes them three terms which is equivalent to nine months but the government wasn’t even able to make full payment for one.

“We have wailed a lot but we haven’t gotten the results we want,’’ she stated.

The caterers who were allegedly ignored by the regional minister, Simon Osei Mensah when they protested at the premises of his office have resigned from their jobs until they are paid their arrears.
