Speaker Alban Bagbin has called on the Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee of parliament to present their report on the Anti-Gay bill.

He advised the committee not to allow anyone cow them into submission in respect to the Anti-Gay bill which is also known as the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill.

Speaker Bagbin hinted that Ghana may not follow the footsteps of Uganda in the passing of this bill.

Uganda, in the course of last week passed an anti-LGBTQ law which imposes life imprisonment for gay sex, a death penalty for aggravated homosexuality and is also a crime to be identified as a member of the LGBTQ community.

However, Hon. Bagbin has stated that parliament might not passed a law which is this severe. He stated, “please committee members that the Bill has been referred to, present a report and don’t be intimidated by any person.’’

“Allow the report to flow because we need to constitutionalize it. Our neighbors, Uganda just legislated their Bill, we may not go the way they have gone,” he disclosed during a breakfast meeting with the Christian Fellowship of Parliament monitored by 1Family Radio.

According to Speaker Bagbin, our Constitution gives clear directives on how to deal with such issues.

He indicated, ‘’the constitution is very explicit on the direction parliament must move, if we violate this guideline and passed any law, it becomes unconstitutional.’’
