‘One Corner crooner Patapaa has contended that people engaged in menial jobs in the UK or America earn more money than Ghanaian musicians.

He said this in response to claims that he does menial tasks abroad, such as car washing, while out of the country.

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, monitored by 1Family Radio, Patapaa claimed that working as a car washer outside of Ghana is far superior to being a musician at home.

“I’m sorry to say, but an artist who is a celebrity in Ghana and makes a lot of noise about it doesn’t earn or have the same chances as a car wash worker in America, he argued.

“When we Ghanaians become famous, we act arrogant and disrespectful. We tend to assume we are bigger than other people when we see them. Travel and see,’’ he said.

He asserts that it is commonplace to see well-known performers have careers other than music since they are aware that music is a low-paying industry.

“They even get upset when you mention music because the money they would make in seconds is more than a week, two weeks, or a month’s worth of an artist’s work in Ghana,’’ he said.

He advised that artists who have been privileged to travel outside the country should try to get some work beside their music career.
