The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called on Portugal to assist Ghana’s quest to become a self-reliant country.

He claims that Ghana wants to have a highly industrialized economy with a value-added agriculture sector that is less reliant on the international financial system.

He made this statement at a meeting with the Portuguese President as part of his visit to Portugal. During the meeting, which was monitored by 1Family Radio, President Akufo-Addo stated that in order for this dream to materialize, Ghana would need the assistance of the Portuguese government.

The president also mentioned Ghana’s readiness to collaborate with Portugal in an effort to find answers to some of the problems West Africans are facing.

“It is particularly significant for us that at this time when there is so much turmoil in West Africa emanating from the Sahel, we’ve been able to sign this defense cooperation with Portugal,’’ he stated.

“I assure President Robelo de Sousa that Ghana will continue to collaborate with Portugal to find solutions to challenges such as the eradication of widespread poverty, insecurity, human rights violations, terrorism, and violent extremism,’’ he said.
