Andrews Kwame Pianim, a Ghanaian financier and former New Patriotic Party (NPP) government official, claims that any of the NPP’s flagbearer candidates would make a better president than an opponent of the NDC party.
He asserts that the NPP’s ten presidential candidates are all more competent than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to govern the nation successfully.
Speaking in an interview on Eyewitness News, monitored by 1Family Radio, the economist urged the NPP’s flagbearer candidates to concentrate on getting their message out rather than disparaging one another.
“We encourage all of them to sell themselves and not to talk about other people. The party is not for the personal aggrandizement of one person. Any of the NPP candidates, as far as we [elders] are concerned, will perform better in terms of our philosophy and our outlook on life than anybody from the other side [NDC]”.
He also advised the other founding members of the NPP to support all ten aspirants of the party because they are the ones going to give hope to the grassroots of the party.
“I wish the founders of the party and all the elders would encourage all ten people who are offering themselves as flagbearers. I went there to support Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, just like I’m urging all the others to come out and sacrifice to lead the nation.’’
‘’It’s not easy to be a flagbearer; these young people will go around the country and spread the message. They are the ones who will inspire the grassroots of the party. Hopefully, this will give them the courage not to lose hope in the political system. It’s the only thing we have, to go and fight and preserve the democratic dispensation, free press, and civil liberties that we want at a great cost to a lot of people,’’ he said.
