Wendy Shay, the self-acclaimed “queen of Ghanaian music,” has written to the government of Ghana regarding the import duties on automobiles.

The ‘Survivor’ hitmaker took to social media to raise concern about the amount of money one has to pay as duty on imported cars, adding that in some cases, this amount can be greater than half of the initial cost of an imported car.

She alleged that a car costing $35,000 would require an import duty of $30,000, which she believed was exorbitant.

In a Twitter post sighted by 1Family Radio, Wendy Shay appreciated the president’s commitment to the wellbeing of Ghanaians while pleading with him to take action about the duties on imported cars.

“Your Excellency, @NAkufoAddo Mr. President, I know you have the welfare of Ghanaians at heart, but can you please do something about import duties, especially on cars?’’ she quizzed.

“The import duties on cars are way outrageous. You buy a car in the US for $35,000 (397,707.10 cedis) and pay $30,000 USD (340,891.80 Cedis) as duty. Please do something, Mr. President,’’ she bemoaned.
