The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has explained the need and reason for increasing the water tariffs for the second quarter of the year.

The announcement of the increment, which was announced on May 18, 2023, will take effect on June 1, 2023.

According to the commission, there has been an increase in the cost of the chemicals used in treating the water.

In a statement issued by the statement, which was sighted by 1Family Radio, it was noted that the quarterly tariff reviews are conducted as part of the commission’s regulatory mandate.

“The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has conducted the quarterly tariff reviews for the second quarter of 20223 as part of its regulatory mandate. The review has resulted in the commission approving changes in water tariffs for the second quarter of 2023. This takes effect on June 1, 2023,’’ the statement indicated.

“In taking this decision, the commission took cognizance of the cost of electricity, increased volume or cost of chemicals for raw water treatment, exchange rate, and inflation.’’

“The PURC is grateful to all stakeholders for their participation and input into the tariff approval process.’’

“The commission will continue to monitor the operations of the utility service providers to ensure value for money and quality of service delivery,’’ the commission stated.
