Bashiru Hayford, former head coach of the Asante Kotoko has stated that he has regretted choosing football as a profession.

According to the former coach, he would have chosen a different profession if he is given the chance to change the hand of time.

Speaking in an interview on Akoma FM monitored by 1Family Radio, Bashiru noted that he no longer has the zeal for football because the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has refused to acknowledge their wealth of experience.

“Frankly speaking, I don’t have the zeal or passion for football again. I no longer feel like watching the Ghana Premier League,’’ he stated.

He continued that so many experienced coaches like himself are in the house doing nothing because the GFA has not been able to tap into their experiences despite the fact that the government still invests in them.

“I’m still at home. The Sports Ministry and the GFA have failed to tap into our broad experience although the country keeps on investing heavily in some of us. We are vested with the knowledge to train new coaches, players and even executives for the improvement of the game,’’ Bashiru said.

The former coach however indicated that he doesn’t regret his coaching job but he will not choose football as a profession if given the chance.

“I don’t regret coaching because I have benefited from it but my biggest regret is not choosing another profession apart from football which would have added value to my life.’’

“The new broom definitely sweeps but the old one knows every corner of the room,’’ he indicated.
