The President for the caterers on the School Feeding Program in the Greater Accra Region has threatened to demonstrate naked if the government fails to meet their demands.
According to the Greater Accra president of the program, the caterers will not cook until the government pays them their arrears and also increase the money allocated to each child.
Speaking in an interview on Peace FM Midday News monitored by 1Family Radio, the President in the person of Mad. Juliana Cudjoe stated that they have not received their arrears for the past two terms.
“They have not paid us for the past two terms, they only paid us one term after which the teachers went on strike. During the strike, we were still cooking for the school children but they didn’t pay us. Now another term has begun and we haven’t received anything yet,’’ she noted.
She furthered that until their demands are met by the government, they are not going to cook to feed any school child on the program.
“All we are saying is that we are not cooking today or tomorrow until the government increases the money allocated to each child and also settles our arrears for the second term because as it stands now, we don’t have anything to start cooking for the children,’’ Juliana said.
Mad. Juliana however stated that they are ready to start cooking tomorrow if they receive their monies today. “If we receive our money today, we will start cooking tomorrow. If the government settles our debt and also increases the fee to GH¢3, they will see us feeding the children the next day. But if they have decided not to give ears to our cry, then we stand by our decision.’’
She threatened that if the government tries to terminate their appointments as caterers, they will go naked on demonstration to fight for their rights.
“If the government tries to take the feeding from any caterer, we will definitely go naked and disgrace ourselves. It is a curse for a woman to go naked but we will if they attempt to terminate our appointment. We will go naked on demonstration and see if the media can telecast it,’’ Juliana stated.
‘If the situation gets serious, we will go naked. They should attempt terminating our appointment and we will see what will happen in this country,’’ she said.
