Joseph Whittal, the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has responded to a petition by Mr. Dafeamekpor.

The Member of Parliament for the South Dayi, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has petitioned CHRAJ to probe into the allegations in the 36-page report by the former Minister of Environment.

The MP petitioned the commission to investigate the alleged issue of corruption, violations of fundamental human rights, issues of conflict of interest and abuse of public funds by the indicted government officials.

However, Mr. Whittal has explained that this can only happen if the persons involved in the report are willing to be interviewed publicly.

Speaking in an interview on TV3 monitored by 1Family Radio, Mr. Whittal noted that the commission must first establish if the allegations demand the mandate of the CHRAJ.

“We can undertake a panel hearing and this will be in the sole interest of the complainant,’’ he said.

“But the problem is that you can’t undertake a panel hearing of all aspects of the investigation. We can do a panel hearing of persons who are willing to be interviewed publicly and we can always invite the press to cover,’’ he added.
