Sensational Ghanaian gospel artiste, Obaapa Christy has explained why she charges to perform at events although she is a Christian and also a gospel artiste.
According to her, there are so many expenses involved in getting ready for an event. She stated that sometimes expenses like makeup and costumes are overlooked by the outside industry but they are very expensive.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz monitored by 1Family Radio, the musician noted that there are some dresses when she wears to perform at a particular event, she can’t wear it to any other event again.
“When I began performing and granting interviews, people asked me if I charge before performing when I said yes, they asked me why I charge as a Christians.’’
Explaining why she charges before performing at events, she said, “makeup is costy, costume to look and appear good is also expensive because I can’t wear it anywhere after that day’s show and I must also eat. This is what we do and even the bible says he who works for the Lord eats from their gains.’’
She furthered that every worker receives his salary at the end of the month therefore it would be unfair it to her if she doesn’t get paid for the services she renders just because she is a Christian.
“Everybody gets paid at the end of the month, so if you think because I am a Christian therefore when a pastor invites me, I am obliged to go and sing only for me to receive ‘God bless you’, then you are not being fair to me,’’ Obaapa stated.
Obaapa Christy alleged that some gospel musicians are now living in regrets because initially they were performing for free and because of that when they want to charge now, they are referred to the past.
“Primitively, people used to say that they don’t charge before performing but now when they want to charge, they will be referred to the utterances they have made in the past.’’
“Let’s be sincere with ourselves so far as it is not displease God,’’ she advised.
