The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has demanded an apology from Joseph Osei-Owusu for a statement he made about the association and its members.

Joseph Osei-Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament in an interview on Oyereba TV stated that the members of GUTA are always complaining about taxes in the country while over-exploiting Ghanaians.

In a statement issued by GUTA, they have asked Osei-Owusu to retract the statement which they termed as unguarded and also offer an apology to the association.

According to GUTA, they have to increase the prices of goods because of the numerous taxes introduced by the government therefore, the politician has no right to make such utterances.

The statement sighted by 1Family Radio indicated, “we have listened to the unguarded statements made by no mean a person than the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Ghana and demand an immediate retraction and unqualified apology to GUTA and all members of the business community.’’

It furthered, “we condemn in no uncertain term the statements, and the sheer arrogance and the complete ignorance exhibited on the genuine inputs GUTA made on those three taxes.’’
