John Dumelo, a Ghanaian actor now turned politician has lambasted the introduction of a 10% tax on betting in the country by the government.

His reactions follows the introduction of a 10% tax on all winnings from lotteries, sports betting and games of chance at the point of payout.  A tax of 20% has been placed on all betting companies in the country.

This new policy by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) seeks to help the government to develop the country and also generate domestic tax revenue.

However, John Dumelo has expressed his disapproval of this new tax policy by the government adding that the government wants to destroy a source of income for some of the youth in the country.

In a Twitter post, the actor asked the government to be very careful of his actions as they might incite hatred in the youth which will later compel them to rise up against the government.

According to him, the government wants to tax the youth after he has refused to create jobs for them.

The tweet sighted by 1Family Radio stated, “create jobs, you won’t create. The youth have created their own jobs too ahh, you want to tax their winnings.’’

He noted that he is hoping it won’t be too late for the government when the youth rise up against him.

“Continue, that day will come when the youth will rise against you. It will be too late,’’ he added.
