Former President John Dramani Mahama has shared his two cents about the military brutality that took place in Ashaiman on March 7,2023.

According to him, all affected persons of this military swoop must be compensated by the government.

In a post he shared on his Facebook page sighted by 1Family Radio, the former president stated that being a former Commander in Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), he understands how such unexpected deaths affects the force. He also extended his condolences to the bereaved family.

In his post he noted “I am deeply saddened by the death of one of our soldiers, at a young age, in Ashiaman. Lordina and I extend our deepest condolences to his bereaved and grieving family.’’

He advised the Ghana Armed Forces to restrain and allow for due process to investigate, apprehend, prosecute and punish the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

The former president noted that there are innocent civilians in Ashaiman and for this reason the military must refrain from meting out extra-judicial justice to the residents of the community.

In his statement, he expressed his sympathy to the victims of the military brutality. “I also sympathize with the victims of the torture in Ashaiman as a result of this unfolding death of a serving soldier,’’ he stated.

John Dramani Mahama concluded by calling on the government and state institutions to step in and address this potentially inflammatory development between Ashaiman and the GAF. He also hinted that all the affected persons of this swoop must be provided with a commensurate compensation.
