Hon. Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader and the MP for the Suame Constituency has shed light on why Jean Mensah didn’t appear before parliament on Thursday, February 23, 2023.

The chairperson for the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa has sent a new Constitutional Instrument (CI) proposal to parliament which seeks to make the Ghana card the only document for voter registration in the 2024 elections.

However, some officials of the EC and the NIA were rejected by the minority caucus in parliament over the absence of Jean Mensa.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM monitored by 1Family Radio, the lawmaker disclosed that Jean Mensa didn’t appear before parliament because she travelled to Nigeria on last week Wednesday to help commissioners to supervise the elections in Nigeria.

He hinted that the letters sent to summon the National Identification Authority (NIA), the Electoral Commission and the Ministry of Finance did not categorically stated that the heads of these bodies must appear before parliament.

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu indicated that the head of the NIA and the Finance Ministry were present but the chairperson for the EC was not in Ghana so she was represented by her deputy.

According to him, Jean Mensa was not in Ghana when the letter was sent to the Electoral commission. He debunked the claims by the minority caucus that Jean Mensa was in Ghana but refused to appear before the house.
