Transport Fares are likely to be increased again – GPRTU

Ghanaians should anticipate the increment of transport fares very soon.

Abass Ibrahim Moro, the Senior Industrial Relations Officer of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has indicated that the transport fares are likely to be increased again due to the increment in the prices of fuel and spare parts.

He made this announcement in an interview on Starr News monitored by 1Family Radio. According to him, when the transportation fares were reduced, the prices of spare parts and grease were not reduced. 

Mr. Moro noted that the prices of spare parts and other products used in operating their business have been increased. They are will have to take into consideration the new prices of these items before they can announce the increment of the transport fares.

He stated that the announcement by some spare parts dealers that the prices of their items have been reduced was not true. According to him, the prices have rather been increased again when they asked the spare parts dealers to disclose the items they have reduced.

Mr. Moro noted that Ghanaians should anticipate the increment of transport fares very soon. He added that they are waiting for the new price of fuel until they take any action. He indicated that the transport fares will surely be increased because they are not ready to make loss in their business.
