Member of Parliament for North Tongu on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has written to the World Bank to probe into the alleged Ascend contract awarded by the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.

The World Bank-funded project, costing $49.5 million, was awarded to Airtel Ghana Limited and Ascend Digital Solutions Limited (ADSL) by the Ministry of Communications and Digitalization (MoCD) in December 2022.

The lawmaker had earlier this month alleged that the Minister awarded this contract without the approval of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA).

In his petition, which was sighted by 1Family Radio, Ablakwa requested the World Bank investigate the irregularities and misinterpretations surrounding the contract.

His tweet, which was attached with the documents of the petition, was captioned, “Yesterday I petitioned the World Bank to launch investigations into the litany of irregularities, misinterpretations, insider dealing, and conflicts of interest relating to the US$49.5 million WB-funded eTransform project.’’
