The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer candidate, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, claims that if the government had heeded his advice, the IMF bailout would not have been necessary.

Alan asserts that Ghana’s economy would already be booming if the president had adopted the President’s Special Initiative (PSI) he introduced under the Kufuor-led administration.

The former Minister of Trade and Industry claimed, while addressing some NPP delegates in Accra, that the PSI he implemented was the missing link needed for the nation’s economy to flourish.

The President’s Special Initiative sought to develop new growth pillars for Ghana’s economy in order to move it beyond its HIPC position and lessen its excessive reliance on aid, foreign support, and some exports of commodities.

He asserted that although he has made certain contributions to the economy, he sometimes feels embarrassed to talk about them because he hasn’t received enough credit for them.

“The amount of work I have done for this country, sometimes I even feel ashamed talking about it,’’ Alan noted during his submission, which was monitored by 1Family Radio.

“I served as a senior minister during President Kufuor’s administration. I introduced PSI, and if Ghanaians had listened to me, Ghana wouldn’t have approached the IMF today,’’ he claimed.
