Daniel Yao Domelevo, the former Auditor-General has disclosed that he felt vindicated by the verdict of the court with respect to his legal suit against the president.

As may be remembered, the president instructed Daniel Yao Domelevo to take his accumulated annual leave in a letter dated June 29, 2020.

“The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has directed Mr. Daniel Yao Domelevo, the Audito-General, to take his accumulated annual leave of one hundred and twenty-three (123) working days, according to the records available to the Presidency, with effect from Wednesday, July 1, 2023.

Nine civil society organizations, including the Center for Democratic Development (CDD), filed a lawsuit against the Attorney General over the directives.

Per the court ruling on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, the directive by the president is null and void and unconstitutional.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM, monitored by 1Family Radio, the former Auditor-General stated that he is happy with the ruling of the court because his successors will not suffer his ordeal.

“I am ultimately happy because my successors will not suffer the pain and agony I had to endure,’’ he said.

He continued that although he didn’t express his joy by shouting or jumping around, he felt vindicated, and that’s all that matters.

“I wasn’t jumping around, but I felt vindicated when the verdict was given. If you remember, when I wrote to the office of the president to draw his attention to the unconstitutionality of the directive, I was told it’s because I am not a lawyer; I don’t appreciate the law,’’ he noted.

“I am happy that those in whose bosom reside the interpretation of the constitution and the laws have affirmed my position,’’ Domelevo added.
