Today, May 15, 2023, marks the beginning of Accra’s one-month ban on drumming and loud noises.

All residents who live inside the Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s authority would be impacted by the prohibition, which is in place starting today and lasting through Thursday, June 15, 2023.

The Ga people practice this exercise as part of their traditions in order to prepare for the annual Homowo festival.

All noise-making activities are prohibited, including the use of loudspeakers, tambourines, drums, burial ceremonies, and roadside evangelism.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly advised the general public, particularly Accra citizens, to abide by this mandate in a statement.

According to the statement obtained by 1Family Radio, all religious organizations and traditional leaders are required to respect one another throughout the prohibition by refraining from making hurtful comments about one another’s beliefs and customs.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly previously announced that a visible task force made up of AMA staff, Ghana Police Service officers, and representatives from the Ga Traditional Councils with tags would enforce the assembly’s noise abatement policy.
