Former Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Otiko Afisa Djaba has cleared on why she rejected the president’s ambassadorial job in 2018.

In August 2018, Otiko was appointed as Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy by President Akuffo-Addo but she officially rejected the offer due to some personal reasons.

However, in a recent interview she has stated that she declined the offer because she needed time for herself and her family especially her children.

Speaking in an interview on GTV monitored by 1Family Radio, the former minister indicated that she became an absentee mother after sixteen years of active politics.

“I had been in politics for sixteen years, I have four children and I was waking up at 5am and sometimes 5am just to go to work across the country. This made me an absentee mother but I wanted to spend time with my children,’’ she said.

When asked about how she felt after making that decision, she stated that declining the offer was the best thing to have happened to her.

“It was the right thing to do. Declining the offer to go to Italy is the best thing that ever happened to me because I was able to bow out of politics,’’ she added.

She however expressed her gratitude towards the party for the chance and the trust they had in her to give her such offer.
